THC Edible review: Ayo Nite Time Grape Chews

Alert, awake, and elevated as needed for a period of several hours followed by a night of restful sleep

Cannabinthusiast | THC Edible review: Ayo Nite Time Grape Chews - TV

I’d been looking at these chews for a couple weeks, trying to come up with a good time to test them out. Finally, on a lark, late last night I popped one in my mouth at about quarter to midnight, fully embracing the “nite time” aspect of their name. I then settled in to watch a goofy Hulu movie called “Spin Me Round” starring Alison Brie, Aubrey Plaza (two of my favorite ladies in one movie? Twist my arm!), and Alessandro Nivola, who himself isn’t at all hard on the eyes. This crazy little comedy/romance/thriller/satire was the ideal sort of fodder for late night under-the-influence viewing. It’s not necessarily a great movie, but then I didn’t need a great movie – I just needed something easy to watch, something that would demand just the right amount of attention. (I mean, who watches foreign arthouse films with subtitles when they’re high?) “Spin Me Round” kept me appropriately amused for a couple hours as the chew’s magic worked its way through my brain.

Given that this chew is only 10 MG of THC per cube, I thought it would be a mild high. It certainly wasn’t “Fear and Loathing,” but it was definitely stronger than I’d anticipated. When the movie was over around 2AM, I didn’t feel quite ready to go to bed, despite 2 being a normal bedtime for me. I’d have been happy to watch something else or listen to a record. But, I didn’t want to be draggy in the morning, so I forced myself into bed, at which point I conked out pretty quickly, sleeping fairly soundly through the night. When I woke up around 10 or so, I swear I could still feel that gummy, but once I got up and had a cup of coffee, that was pretty much over with.

A second evening with this chew started earlier – around 9PM instead. This was enhanced by a glorious 25th anniversary viewing of “The Big Lebowski” and an immersive vinyl listen to ELO’s “Time,” to honor a fallen friend. Around 1AM, all of this was over, and I happily trotted off to bed where I slept like a rock. Once again, I awoke the next morning feeling the chew’s aftereffects and yet also unusually refreshed (which is never how I feel in the morning). My recommendation is to take the AYO chew three or four hours prior to bedtime rather than two.

The chew is sourced from Granddaddy Purple, a classic indica strain, which infuses it with quite the impressive terpene cocktail of Linalool, Humulene, Myrcene, Beta-Caryophyllene, both Alpha and Beta-Pinene, Terpinolene, Limonene and Caryophyllene Oxide, which is entirely new to me. One thing I noticed about this chew is that it had the same sort of slight burning sensation going down that the previous AYO product I used had, which leads me to think it may be common to their edible chews. Must be the ethanol used in making the gummy. This doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try this wonderful product, rather it’s more of a friendly warning.

Both occasions with this chew yielded similar results: alert, awake, and elevated as needed for a period of several hours followed by a night of restful sleep.
